A Brush With Disaster
Grant is out of surgery, which was successful; he's feeling much better, despite a sore throat from all the fishing around in there, and he'll be home tomorrow. The culprit seems to have been a metal bristle from our grill brush.
Thank you, everyone, for all the good wishes. They mean more than you know.

Great news! And who would have thought!? Another thing to obsess over......
Be kind to Grant for a few days. But then again, you were the one stuck home, working out care for the kids, getting back and forth to the hospital. Be kind to yourself as well!

Oh, my gosh! How scary! I'm so glad surgery was successful and Grant is recovering well.

Hooray for persistent doctors! I hope Grant is feeling like himself really soon. That's what you get for being all chi chi and grilling your vegetables. heh.

Whew! Cullan just told me you called last night. "Any time," I told him, "someone calls with news about surgery, it's worth relaying the message."
So glad Grant is doing better and will be home today. Play your Ronstadt while you can!

Oh, ow! The poor guy. So small and yet so painful. Hope he feels better soon.

How scary. Glad to hear that he's on the mend.

Oof! That happened to my husband once, eating grilled fish in a restaurant (he'd purposely chosen the "healthy option"). He was lucky though. He got away with only a punctured gum, and a free meal.
So glad you can all take a deep breath and enjoy the weekend. And you would be fully justified in hiding the Bartok CD's for a week!
By Joan, at 10:49 AM
Yikes! That was scary. Glad it all worked out.
By Lynne, at 11:09 AM
That's what it was! Who knew?
Thank goodness he's doing better.

Thank goodness! What a freak occurrence. He should buy a lottery ticket now!
By Carol, at 3:01 PM
I'm glad he's okay! Sorry I missed the first post and didn't send good wishes...
It's time for a grill stone. If he happened to get some of the pumice from the grill stone in his dinner he'll just learn to digest like a parakeet. ;)

I think you guys get the strangest hospital story of the year award. I'm so glad to hear they did eventually find the durned thing and get it out. Get well soon Grant!

Glad everything's ok. What a bizarre story!

Whew! How scary! Glad they got it out.
Now to go worry over our own metal grill brush. ouch!
By Alwen, at 10:49 AM
Thank god, and holy shit. I'm amazed that wasn't radiopaque. Please send Grant my best wishes for a quick recovery.
By Laurie, at 6:04 AM
wow. I am so glad it turned out ok, but what an adventure for your whole family.

Good heavens - poor guy, and poor you! There is simply no end to the list of things to worry about, is there? Glad it all worked out, and hope Grant is feeling better soon.
(runs off to dipose of horrible ancient metal grill brush...)

This is obviously what happens when one tries to clean a grill. You have to quit that. SO happy to hear that Grant is home. Let the guy play a little Bartok, hmn?

Good grief. That is the weirdest thing I've heard of, but I'm glad he's better. I'll bet he never wants to eat endive again.
By Lorette, at 8:12 PM
Yikes! Glad he's OK! I promise if he ever comes here I won't grill him some endive. Scary indeed. Are you making him slushy frozen drinks, hopefully with a little anesthetic in them?
By Lisa/knitnzu, at 9:11 PM
OW! Gosh, I hope he's feeling a whole lot better now.
By Rhea, at 12:16 PM
I'm glad they found it, and I hope he makes a speedy recovery. I'm sorry you had such a fright!
By Nicole, at 11:06 PM
What a gruesome story - OUCH!
Glad they found the culprit!

What a relief to have that nasty thing out of there. Hope Grant's physical recovery, and your emotional recovery have been swift (I've been out of town for ~ a week, so I'm just catching up).

OMG. I was picturing a needle or something. Thank goodness they didn't do an MRI, though I suppose they thought of that, with the idea that SOMEthing metal might be in there.
Thank GOODNESS he's OK, and you too. I can imagine you were "just this side of barking." Eek.

The things you miss when you are chained to the sewing machine...I had no idea the hazards of a grill brush. ;o) I'm glad to hear he's okay!!

Glad that I read this BEFORE the previous post. Even though this is my first visit to your blog [ found you over on Alwen's ] it all just sounds so horrible, that I was wincing in sympathy... and one can't help but thinking that the outcome might have been very different with less persistent medicos ... erk!
Enjoy the rest of your vacation
